Hosted by Nick Collier, Chairman of Diplomatic Engagement at IBDE, this briefing provides our members and guests an excellent opportunity to hear from two ilustrious speakers both of whom having served as Ambassadors to the EU until 2017. The event will bring together Heads of Mission alongside senior corporate representatives to discuss issues around Brexit and interational trade. The discussion will be held under the Chatham House rule.

Nick Collier is Non-Executive Director and Chairman of Diplomatic Engagement at IBDE. He is the Global Head of Government and Regulatory Affairs at Thomson Reuters. He moved from Morgan Stanley, where he had been Head of EMEA Government Relations since June 2007. Nick previously held roles as the Head of Regulatory Policy at the International Capital Market Association, as the Director of International Risk, Compliance and Government Affairs at Instinet, and as the European head of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association. He started his career in the Bank of England, including a spell as the UK financial attaché to the EU.
Anthony Gardner has spent more than twenty years of his career advising on U.S.-European affairs, as a government official, lawyer and investor. After a successful career in New York and London, in 2013 he was appointed by President Obama to be US Ambassador to the European Union. In that capacity, he was intimately involved in the transatlantic trade negotiations, as well as data privacy, digital economy, sanctions and energy security. Anthony served as United States Ambassador to the European Union from March 2014 to January 2017. He is senior Advisor at Brunswick, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and serves on the boards of Scottish Power and Brookfield Business Partners.
Sir Ivan Rogers is a former senior British civil servant, who was the Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the European Union from 2013-17. Sir Ivan served in the Treasury, including as Private Secretary, to Kenneth Clarke, Chancellor of the Exchequer. He then was seconded to the European Commission as Chief of Staff to Sir Leon Brittan, returning to be Director, European Strategy and Policy and later Director of Budget and Public Finances under Gordon Brown. In 2003, Sir Ivan was chosen as the Principal Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tony Blair. After three years in this role,Ivan Rogers left the civil service in 2006 to become Head of the UK Public Sector Group at Citigroup. In 2010 he was transferred to be Head of the Public Sector Industry Group, UK and Ireland, at Barclays Capital. In 2012, Sir Ivan returned to the civil service as the Prime Minister’s Adviser for Europe and Global Issues and the Head of the European and Global Issues Secretariat, then becoming the senior British diplomat at the EU in 2013. Following the Brexit referendum in June 2016, Sir Ivan Rogers became a key civil servant in the negotiations to leave.
