On 8 March 2018, IBDE hosted its Annual Conference to coincide with the IBDE's 8th Anniversary. The conference was held following the meeting of the Advisory Board giving participants an opportunity to meet our members of our Executive Board and the Advisory Board. The Annual Conference brings together 200 most senior decision-makers, diplomats, business people (Chairmen, CEOs, CFOs EDs, MDs, EDs, CIOs, CTOs, and board members).

EU27 Ambassadors Breakfast​​

On 5 December 2017, IBDE and the City of London Corporation hosted the EU Ambassadors Breakfast. The meeting was held in line with the City of London Corporation’s EU engagement strategy and as a follow-up of IBDE’s 18 meetings debating the implications of Brexit for the UK, EU and the wider markets. Hosted by Alderman Charles Bowman, Lord Mayor of the City of London, and moderated by Nick Collier, Chairman of Diplomatic Engagement of IBDE, the meeting brought together senior representatives from the EU27 Embassies, City of London and IBDE Board and Advisory Board.

Policymaker Roundtable on Diversity and Inclusion​​

On 23 November 2017, IBDE hosted its policymaker roundtable on diversity and inclusion. The meeting was held in line with the IBDE and Legal and General Investment Management's commitment to diversity and actions to create more inclusive workplace cultures. The event was kindly hosted by Legal & General Investment Management and sponsored by the City of London Corporation. Held under the Chatham House Rule the event brought together senior representatives from Whitehall, City of London and IBDE members to discuss how to retain momentum in the efforts towards greater board and management team diversity - and in particular how to improve the diversity of thought in an age of upheaval.

IBDE Breakfast with the Commonwealth High Commissioners

The event was organised in line with the IBDE’s and the City of London’s Commonwealth engagement strategy. Hosted by Alderman Charles Bowman, Lord Mayor of London, this exclusive breakfast brought together senior representatives from the London-based High Commissions, Whitehall, Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, City of London and IBDE Board and Advisory Board. Attendees brainstormed the best ways to promote the Commonwealth Summit and Commonwealth Business Forum from a business perspective as well as identified the ways in which the City of London and IBDE can support High Commissions, HM Government and their business partners, as the UK prepares to host the Commonwealth Summit in London April 2018.

On 5 October 2017, IBDE hosted its 7th Chairman’s Business Briefing. The meeting was held in line with IBDE’s post-referendum policy strategy and as a follow-up of its 17 seminars on debating the implications of Brexit for the UK, EU and the wider global markets. Held under the Chatham House rule, these briefings bring together senior diplomats and corporate executives. The purpose of these discussion groups is to facilitate the Brexit policy dialogue and identify the ways in which IBDE can continue to play a constructive role and support the UK Government, the City and our Embassy and business partners.

On 21 September 2016 IBDE hosted its first informal EU Ambassadorial Luncheon as part of IBDE’s Ambassadorial Discussion Group. The meeting was held in line with IBDE’s EU engagement strategy and as a follow-up of IBDE’s eight seminars on debating the consequences of Brexit, which IBDE has hosted since June 2015. Held under the Chatham House Rule, the meeting brought together senior representatives from the EU Embassies, European Commission, FCO, Department for International Trade, and the City of London, alongside members of the IBDE Board and Advisory Board, to explore the future UK-EU Relationship following the UK’s vote to leave the EU. The meeting featured on the front page of the City A.M.

Chaired by Rudi Guraziu, Executive Chairman, IBDE the seminars were both inclusive, in that they have attracted leading representatives from various institutions and field of politics, policy makers and opinion shapers, including businesspeople (especially entrepreneurs, start-ups and SMEs), politicians including (cross-party members of Westminster and European Parliaments), diplomats, academics, civil society representatives, members of public (including students and your professionals) and the media as well as thematically comprehensive in their content, having offered speakers and the audience an opportunity to explore the various viewpoints of the In/Out EU referendum debate.
